I am so saddened to hear that our Auntie Clare has passed away. She was a friend of my my Mum’s for many years, before our family emigrated to Canada. She was always interested in us, would visit us at our home in Mow Cop and, on occasion, spent time with us at her home. My Mum thought very highly of Clare and, I unerstand why.
One could not meet someone as gentle, kind, sweet-natured, and unassuming. Her personality belied the interesting life she had, as she took up various teaching positions in foreign countries and eventually became a head mistress. As an adult, My Mum and I kept in touch with Clare at Christmastime by mail. When the letters stopped coming, we never knew what became of Clare. My Mum always worried and wondered. Sadly she, herself, passed away on January 26th last year, not knowing Clare was still alive at that time. Thankfully, my sister Jackie, found Clare’s obituary and sent it to me yesterday. We are saddened by this loss, but relieved that Clare is at peace. We will always remember her.
Condolences to Nigel and Veronica on the loss of your sister, Clare. She and my mum taught together at St Stephen’s School in Congleton for a number of years in the ‘60s.
Clare came to visit us at our house on Mow and I remember going to visit her at your parents beautiful home in Hulme Walfield during that time.
My sister and I saw her in 1977, when we came back for a visit. She fed us a delicious meal and we had a wonderful visit with her and the most interesting chat. Clare was such a lovely, kind and gentle person. She was truly unique.
Sending my deepest sympathies.
