John passed away peacefully on 9th November 2020 at Sharston House Nursing Home, Knutsford aged 83 years. The funeral will take place at Goostrey Methodist Church on Thursday 19th November 2020 at 3pm, followed by committal at Birches Crematorium. Donations if desired to Goostrey Methodist Church.
John was much loved by everyone whose life he touched. Born just before the start of WW2, he grew up with rationing and war. He undertook his National Service in the Medical Corps, and then eventually found his way into the exhibitions business where he and his friend, Roy Cheetham, started a company called RJ Designs. This allowed John the flexibility to take time off whenever he needed it to follow his calling – being a minister of the church – as well as being a great dad of course!
John was a local preacher since his early 20’s, and in the 60 years since then has touched many lives. His patient and generous nature have lifted many spirits in times of need, and a good (or sometimes not so good) joke could always make you laugh.
He enjoyed a round of golf with his many friends from Woodside Golf Club, as well as soup and sandwiches afterwards, and I’m sure they will all have some very fond memories of him.
John lost his partner, Margaret Strong, six years ago and has missed her every day since. He loved Margaret deeply and enjoyed every minute of the time they spent together.
Always there for his family and friends, no matter what the ‘emergency’ or cause for celebration, he will be very much missed and will remain always in our hearts.
